Air purifiers have now become an absolute demand in China. But there is a crisis of confidence in the messy air purifier industry. Although the chaos has been contained since the introduction of the new National Standards, consumers are still cautious on the purchase of air purifiers.

After the launch of new National Standards in March 2016, large quantities of non-conforming, inferior, low-tech and poor-service products were forced out of the market entirely. Number of air purifier brands dropped from about 700 to 400. Indeed, this move has effectively stimulated the development of air purifier industry, but the current consumer demand on air purifiers has exceeded what the new Standards defined. More specific and straightforward purchase criteria are required for the market.

The seven-star ratings jointly launched by home appliance manufacturers classify air purifiers by their all-around performance, including particulate removal rate per hour, formaldehyde filtration per hour and other index. The seven-star-certified products can all meet the highest standard of new National Standards, which is quite instructive for ordinary consumers.

The seven-star ratings require particulate removal rate per hour to be ≥ 400m3 and formaldehyde filtration per hour to be ≥ 200.
